  2. I was driving back to Philadelphia from NY and I stopped at a gas station in NJ at like 1 AM. And I automatically got out of my car and started filling up. Nobody stopped me and I didn't think anything of it until somebody came out to fill up another guy's car. And then I was like oh shit, oops. Then I asked the guy should I stop and he was like nah, he didn't care. And that's my shitty story on it.

  3. In NJ all the gas stations are Full Service due to law. I think it's to create more jobs for the state.

I don't know if it's actually illegal (ie you could get fined or JAILED!) to fill your own gas, though.

  4. Definitely is actually illegal. Law was passed in 1949 for safety reasons (back when people used to smoke while they were pumping gas), and Gov. Corzine has tried to overturn it several times, only to receive widespread opposition. People like it because it creates jobs, but also because a lot of them don't want to have to learn to do it themselves and/or see it as a part of New Jersey's unique identity.

So back off and pump your gas somewhere else!
